In this presentation we will explore the connection with GLP-1 medications and body chemistry. We will review the diabetes and oral health connection, discover the direct link between GLP-1s, blood sugar, and oral health, and examine how these drugs impact diabetes management.
Course Objectives:
- Review the connection between Diabetes and Periodontal Disease. What are the latest statistics?
- Discuss the popular GLP-1 medications: Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound
- Recognize the side Effects of GLP-1 medications have with Oral Health
Kim Lucas Benton, DDS, MPH, FICD, FACD
Dr. Benton received her DDS from Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry, and her MPH from Capella University. She is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences at the University of the Pacific, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry (UOP) and currently serves as the Director of the Pacific Health Care Collaborative and Sacramento Programs at UOP. Dr. Benton’s capstone while in graduate school focused on Diabetes and the Oral Health Connection. She is passionate about “spreading the word” to know your numbers and get screened for Diabetes.
