Successful Practice Transitions: Is It All in the Goodwill? And More? (In-person course)

No CEU • $75 Member Price

If you are looking to sell or buy a practice, join us for an enlightening evening to discuss the various opportunities, implications, considerations and current trends in the practice transition world. First, you will hear from two long-time SDDS members – the seller and the buyer. Establishing and maintaining goodwill throughout the dental practice transition and beyond is vital to ensuring that the transfer from the owner to the buyer will be a win-win-win for all parties, including the patients. Strategies for a successful transition will be shared, as well as legal and financial preparations for the transition. Also joining in the conversation will be a seasoned broker who will discuss practice consolidation, acquisition strategies, purchase models, and the growing DSO field.

Course goals:
Seller:

  • Get to know your prospective successor
  • Prime your patients to ensure success
  • Continue to provide support to your successor even after the transition

Buyer:

  • Get to know your predecessor and the practice
  • Maintain a practice philosophy close to your predecessor’s
  • Build trust and loyalty with patients and staff

Broker:

  • DSOs are a private practice’s friend
  • The practice of private practice has evolved to the business of private practice
  • Define who you are and carve that path!

Kim E. Wallace, DDS:

Kim Wallace, D.D.S. Is a 1972 graduate of the University of California, San Francisco, School of Dentistry. He is a Life Member of the Sacramento District Dental Society, having served on several committees, as well as on the Board of Directors and the SDDS Foundation Board. After serving as a dental officer in the US Air Force, Dr. Wallace was a private practice general dentist in Davis, California until he sold his practice to Dr. Samer Alassaad in 2019 and retired. He is a member of the Yolo County Oral Health Advisory Committee.

Samer S. Alassaad, DDS:

Samer S. Alassaad, DDS, a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and the American College of Dentists, practices general dentistry in Davis and recently acquired Dr. Kim Wallace’s practice in Davis. He served as President of the California AGD and on the SDDS peer review and ethics committees. He currently serves on the Yolo County Oral Health Advisory Committee.

Ray Irving, Professional Practice Sales (SDDS Vendor Member):

For four plus decades, Ray Irving has facilitated the sale of dental practices as Professional Practice Sales. Simultaneously operated another M&A firm focused on the sale of healthcare practices / businesses in consolidating healthcare niches across the United States. This activity afforded Ray an understanding of corporate acquisition strategies, purchase models and the corporate playbook. In the 1990’s, private equity tinkered with the dental profession. It failed. Times have changed. Ray has completed sales to DSOs, talks to DSO acquisition officers and is paying close attention to this growing industry.
