Rights & Privileges of Active Membership:

CLASSIFICATION

A dentist shall be classified as an active member of this association who subscribes to, adheres to and is bound by the ethics and Bylaws of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association,
and the Sacramento District Dental Society, and who qualifies for membership under one or more of the following criteria:

  • Is licensed to practice dentistry in the geographic boundaries of the Sacramento District Dental Society.
  • Is a graduate and holder of a D.D.S. or D.M.D. or other appropriate degree from a dental school accredited or approved by the American Dental Association and (i) engages in activities in government service or other endeavors which contribute to the profession of dentistry; or (ii) serves as a full-time dental educator in a dental school located in the area.
  • Is a current holder of a special permit in oral and maxillofacial surgery issued by the State Board of
    Dental Examiners.

Explanatory Note: The term "engages in activities in government service" as used in these Bylaws shall mean dentists who are employed exclusively in the dental departments of the Air Force, Army, Navy, the Public Health Service, the Veterans Administration, and federal agencies.

PRIVILEGES

An active member in good standing shall receive the following benefits of membership: a certificate of active membership; a free subscription to the monthly Nugget newsletter; a free triannual membership directory; a reduced rate for the Journal of the California Dental Association; attendance at all SDDS events at member prices; and such other services as are provided by the SDDS, CDA, or ADA.

An active member in good standing shall be eligible for election as a delegate or alternate delegate to the CDA and ADA House of Delegates and for election or appointment to any office, committee, or agency of
this association.

An active member under a disciplinary sentence of suspension shall not be privileged to hold office, either elective or appointive, including delegate and alternate delegate, in the Sacramento District Dental Society of CDA, or to vote or otherwise participate in the election of officials of the SDDS or CDA.


 

Rights & Privileges of Life Membership:

CLASSIFICATION

A member in good standing who has been an active and/or retired member in good standing for thirty (30) consecutive years or a total of thirty-five (35) years of active and/or retired membership, having attained the age of sixty-five (65) years, shall be automatically notified as to eligibility as a life member. Life membership shall be effective the calendar year following the year in which the requirements are fulfilled. Such applicant shall be a member in good standing at the time of his/her classification as a life member. Maintenance of membership in good standing in this component Society shall be a requisite for continuance of life membership in this association.

PRIVILEGES

A life member, active or retired, in good standing shall receive a pin of life membership and shall be entitled to all the privileges of an active member.
